18 Legal, Stressed, Ready

#LeighsLessons:  18 Legal, Stressed, Ready

Hi Everyone!  My sister's 18 th birthday is coming up and I’m excited, scared and happy for her all at the same time.

Excited: because she is legal, every child dreams of the day when they can say they are legally an adult, I mean how cool is that?

Tip:  Now that you’re legal, make smart decisions, real jail is no joke!

Scared: because my older sister will be leaving me in less than a year, she is my best friend and I have no idea what I’m going to do without her.

Tip:  Take a 5 minute break to turn off all the distractions and think only about your breathing

Happy: well anyone who knows me knows I love, LOVE birthdays. People shower you with gifts and love and hugs just for living another year!

Tip:  Get comfortable taking risks as this could be the best year of your life (at least thus far)!

This year we struggled with what to get her because my sister and I are very blessed in what we have and the experiences our parents make possible for us. We thought about getting her a laptop to take to college but she doesn’t leave for another year, definitely a graduation present. I proposed the idea of Ray Ban sunglasses because she always has some brand of sunglasses on, but I’m not equipped to choose those for her. We pondered a trip somewhere but college visits seem to wear her out.

Back in July, my dad and I went to the World of Coke Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.  And what I learned is material items are not what is important.  One of the quotes I remember is:

“We do not remember days, we remember moments” - Cesare Pavese

I think this quote is very accurate and authentic. For my sister's 18th birthday, I am going to do something she will remember for the rest of her life. Something real, and unforgettable. Pray for me and my sister, I’ll pray for you.

Leaving, Later, Out.
